Flag Information Seminars Given

On November 8th – 10th Flag informational Seminars were presented to students in grades 5th – 8th at Harbor Beach Middle School and grades 9th – 12th at Harbor Beach High School.  Making the presentations were Dennis Essenmacher  of VFW Post 9344 and Ron Volmering and Jim Leiby of American Legion Post 197.  Students were given information concerning the origin of our Country’s Flag and the meanings of Its’ features, Its’ care, and the rules of displaying It.  Students were given the opportunity to fold the Flag and an opportunity to ask questions.  Pamphlets and other materials were passed out to further their understanding of Flag etiquette and how to show respect to the Flag.  In closing Dennis Essenmacher  lead each group in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Cart Derby Recap

The Harbor Beach and American Legion Cart Derby was held on this beautiful sunny day.  There were 33 drivers in four divisions.  Racing was very intense as every year drivers and carts continue to improve and competition gets tighter and tighter.  Clark Ramsey and Erik Kociba were the race commentators and welcomed drivers with the playing of the National Anthem and driver introductions.  Drivers came from as far away as Dundee, MI (Ben, Samantha, and Drew Schwab) and many from Genesee, Macomb, and Oakland counties as well as local drivers.  The Harbor Beach Lions Club lunch wagon was on site with food and beverages available.  Racing started on time at 9:00 AM as the fun and excitement continued to build throughout the day.  Everyone including the racers, spectators and workers had a great day of downhill gravity racing.  Congratulations to all the drivers, sponsors, workers and race committee on a job well done.
