Honor Guard at HBHS
2022 Christmas Parade
12-03-2022 The Harbor Beach Christmas Parade was held today with more than 40 floats. Floats representing Harbor Beach businesses and other area businesses as well as area organizations were on hand. The American Legion Post 197 and VFW Post 9344 in a joint effort were on hand to lead the Parade’s Honor Guard. A delicious meal was served afterwards by the Mutart Family.

11-12-2022 The Veterans Dinner was held at Post 197 with 47 Veterans and guests present. The meal included roast beef, bbq’d pork, roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salads and dessert was catered by Melinda Smeiglenski.
Winners of 50/50 were : Tim Robinson, Dave Haight, and Aileen Ramsey.
Gale Leiby and Barbra Ayotte won the quilts.
Janis Stein, the quest speaker, opened by thanking all that served. She gave a snapshot view of the opinions of Veterans who served in WWll, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Middle East Conflicts. She told a variety of stories with every story showing emotions ranging from tears to laughter to smiles. In the end she was given a standing ovation and she again thanked the Veterans for Serving.

11-11-2022 Breakfast for all Veterans was served by the students and faculty at the Harbor Beach High School in honor of their service to their Country. The program included a tribute to each branch of service by the playing of each Service’s Victory Song by the High School Band. Dr. Shawn Bishop, the high school superintendent, welcomed the Veterans and thanked them for their service to their Country and for the things they do for the community. Each Veteran received multiple thank you cards from the elementary school students.

HCCF Awards
09-15-2022 Post Commander Ron Kociba attended the Huron County Community Foundation Celebration in Port Austin at The Dark Sky Tavern. The Post received a grant of $3,000 to be used to replace the handicap ramp. Pictured is Ron Kociba, Commander Post 197 and the other recipients of awards.
